  We work in the mountain

Hey my friends
We got jobs! We are now working in Cypress Mountain, one of the closest mountain to Vancouver. This is a wonderful place, with crazy panoramic views over Vancouver city, Vancouver island and the sunshine cost, when you are on the top it is just awwwwwwsome! (well when its clear)

We started last Monday, we work as lift operator. So we take care of the lifts that goes up the ski runs. Its hard work, and cold too! The good thing is that we meet lot of people from everywhere (Australia, NZ, Canada, UK, France...), so the ambiance is nice!
It takes us a lot of time to get there and to come back. So we are zombie when we finish work :) Hopefully, it ll get better when we will get used to it. Maybe we will move to North Vancouver which is closer!

If we keep courage and keep this job, we will become ski master! hehe. The ski pass is free for us. We didn't start skiing yet, i have to get some insurance first. And Jen will need to get lessons too! She wants to start snowboard, because all the cool dude use snowboard here. If you ski, you are a old looser kindof :D

The weather is a bit crazy in this city, last week we had torrential rains with big winds, it was super hot this summer. And now snow all over the place!

  I played the Wii

I played with the Wii! yeah ! yatta!!

For those who don't know what the wii is (shame on you! :D), this is the new Nintendo console. And it uses movement recognition to play games. It is already out in Canada, but in Europe you will have to wait until the 8th of december (ahah)

After all that time reading reviews on the net, i could test it for myself! We went for shopping today (to get ready for the snow mania!), and there was a Nintendo Wii demo thingy. So i grabbed the wiimote and the guy let me play Red Steel, a shooting game with yakusas and bad guys who are not willing to use diplomacy anyway.
So you use the wiimote in the right hand to aim the gun and shoot these bastards, and the nunchaku in the left hand, to reload by shaking your hand. Its fun to play, although the cursor is lost sometimes if you move to far out the wiimote. It is a bit weird to play a FPS like this after being accustomed to mouse/keyboard, but i after a while you get used to it. It's a bit tiring for the arms as well :)
Red Steel doesn't seems that good, but the idea is here. There was Wii boxing and Wii tennis on demo, as well as the new Zelda. I didn't try it, but it was very fun to watch people play the boxing game, and moving like crazy! Type "wii boxing" in youtube and you will get loads of funny homemade video of people boxing :)
The wiimote you play with can be lethal for your TV: look here
Our Tv doesn't even have the peritel plug, it's a crappy old TV that we found in our building. So i think i will have to wait until next summer to get my own one :)

Storms over Vancouver and water contamination

One of the largest water warnings in the province's history was issued Thursday for Greater Vancouver's two million residents. Following a massive storm and torrential rains, landslides went into the city reservoirs (like the capilano reservoir). These landslides turned the water from clear to brown!

We cannot drink the water from the tap, neither brush our teeth with it. We need to boil the water each time to kill bacteria or parasites. yuk! This might stop tomorrow, but there is a another big storm coming on sunday!
The winds here are very strong and some houses were destroyed in the storm, in north and west vancouver.

I hope we will manage to survive this storm, talk to you soon... shhh.... ....... shh........ over houston.......

Watch the grizzli bears live from Grouse mountain!

Do you remember the 2 grizzli bears from Grouse Mountain? Well you can see them live during the winter thanks to a few webcams hidden in their park.

Snow has started to fall on the mountain, we can't see it from the city yet because of the fog. The bears will go into their hibernation den in a few weeks, but for the moment they can play snow fights.

When i tried to look at the webcam, i just seen snow, but you should try to come often to spot the grizzlis!

  GWAR in Vancouver

Last night i went with Chris to see GWAR in concert!

gwar.jpg

GWAR is a big american punk band, i didn't know them before, but it appears they are quite famous. They are wearing these mad costumes, half soldier half dinosaur! It reminds me of the bad guys in Power Rangers or Bioman. The show was awesome, really funny. They were spraying fake green and red blood on the crowd. I was soaked at the end. I was at the front at some point, everybody was going crazy there. The music was good although i didn't really listened to it at the end, i was more trying to survive!

  Its raining mooses and raccoons

The rain is coming down in buckets! Since a few days it is raining non stop here in Vancouver. That legend was not a joke and now we are worried about the weather for the next 6 months... :D
Rainfalls magnitude have reached one of the highest ever recorded here in BC!

I hope my 2$ umbrella is gonna survive the storm! On the TV news, they were showing wild salmon swimming on the flooded roads! Just crazy!
Where is the snow tabernacle!!

Edit: Our friend Chris (famous weather specialist in BC) told me that these rains were coming from Hawaii. That's why they smell nice and are relatively warm. But the worst is coming, the rain coming from Japan! Japanese rains are cold (and stinky :)?). The winter will alternate between these two type of rain. Waa how lucky we are, you wish you had rain coming from Japan or Hawaii eh? sounds cool! Well i will keep you informed!
